Five Tips for Remodeling Your Kitchen

Kitchens Along with getting a great return on your investment, making the space work for your needs is important when considering a kitchen remodel. The most beautiful kitchen will only create stress for a homeowner if it isn’t designed properly. Consider these tips for a kitchen remodel that will simplify your daily routines.

Plan Around Three Main Appliances

Most kitchens revolve around three main appliances – the refrigerator, the stove, and the sink. These are three most used areas of a kitchen. That is why the entire design should revolve around these three points. You do not want a person standing at the sink to block someone from using the stove or using the refrigerator.

Build a Pantry

Pantries are a great way to save space in your kitchen. Instead of needing to store everything in your cabinets, a pantry can hold all of your consumable goods and additional pots and pans. Most pantries are about the size of a small walk in closet. If you do not have a lot of space, there are pull out pantries that only require a foot or so of space. By including a pantry you can free up the demand of having a lot of cabinet space.

Planning Cabinets

Even if you have a pantry, you are still going to need cabinets. Having cabinets hand made to your specifications is not going to cost you that much more than buying prefabricated cabinets. If you already have a contractor working on your renovations, they will be able to build your kitchen cabinets. Make sure that you are going to have room to store all of your utensils, plates, cups, pots, and other cooking items.

Consider Additional Appliances

While the kitchen may revolve around the refrigerator, the stove, and the sink, there are other appliances that can make a kitchen more functional. A dishwasher is an appliance that some homeowners will consider a necessity. If you do not have these appliances during your renovations, then plan on leaving space for them to be installed at a later time. A kitchen is a major renovation, so you should consider the addition of other appliances now.

Create an Eating Area

Having an eating area or a small breakfast nook adds to the appeal of a kitchen while creating more space. Instead of having to feed your children at the dining room table each morning, they could eat their cereal at a small eating area. The eating area would have its own counter space that could match up to the end of the kitchen counter. Finish off the area by placing two stools.

Consider all five of these tips as you start planning your kitchen renovations. Plan your design around your major appliances and leave space for later appliances. Think about space, when choosing cabinets or building a pantry. Create a breakfast area to add additional seating and counter space. Most peoples lives revolve around their kitchen, so make it the focal point of your house.
